A pilot program of the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) enlisted the states of Pennsylvania and North Carolina to assist in evaluating a Model Electronic (EHR) Format, specialized for the pediatric patient population. Pediatricians in North Carolina have had the opportunity to work with their EHR vendors to influence the Model Format’s interpretation and implementation in EHR systems.
The NC team at CCNC has been evaluating the effectiveness of the Model Children’s EHR Format to accomplish the following goals:
- Increasing industry-wide knowledge and understanding of information technology’s role in child health care.
- Improving the pediatric content and functionality of current and future EHR products.
- Improving child health care quality and reducing cost.
The CHIPRA grant was awarded for 5 years, beginning in 2010, and ended in February of 2015. A no-cost extension was then awarded, giving NC an additional 10 months to work on grant activities. Click here for a graphic of the NC grant categories and their relationships.
