April 20, 2020

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Community Care of North Carolina, Inc. (CCNC) and with much pleasure, I am delighted to announce today the appointment of CCNC President Tom Wroth, M.D., MPH, as CCNC’s Chief Executive Officer effective July 1, 2020.

We are confident in Dr. Wroth’s leadership and in his ability to guide CCNC’s growth and development going forward. We are excited about his vision for CCNC's future and his well-demonstrated commitment to its mission. Our decision was unanimous.

Dr. Wroth succeeds Dr. Allen Dobson, our founding CEO, and the principal architect of CCNC's highly respected and nationally recognized primary care delivery system. CCNC is known throughout our country for its innovative approach to reducing the cost of healthcare while improving patient outcomes and physician satisfaction.

Dr. Dobson announced his plans in January to step down, first, as President and then to retire as CEO at the end of June. He recommended, and the Board approved Dr. Wroth’s promotion to CCNC’s President.

We are fortunate to retain Dr. Dobson’s experience and help on the CCNC Board as Founding President and CEO Emeritus. He will remain as CCNC’s appointment to the Boards of Directors of both Community Care Physician Network, (CCPN) one of the nation’s largest clinically integrated networks (CIN) with more than 3,000 independent primary care clinicians, and Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Networks, (CPESN) a national CIN of independent pharmacists now operating in 45 states.

Likewise, we are fortunate to have an individual with Dr. Wroth’s experience and skills to lead us through the immense challenges of today, while crafting a sustainable, thriving future for CCNC and all who depend upon our statewide network of support for patients and their medical providers.

In these momentous times, we have been delighted with his ability to guide our organization in swiftly adapting, creating, and deploying new services to meet critical healthcare needs in this moment of crisis. In doing so, Dr. Wroth has drawn upon and strengthened many of the longstanding partnerships we have enjoyed within North Carolina's healthcare family over the years.

Dr. Wroth knows North Carolina and its people very well. He joined the CCNC family in 2005 as a Senior Clinical Consultant, a post he held while serving as Chief Medical Officer of Piedmont Health Services. In 2012, he was the physician chosen for appointment to the North Carolina Community Care Network (NCCCN) Board by the Federally Qualified Health Centers. He was named Chief Medical Officer in 2016 and Chief Operating Officer in 2018.

Dr. Wroth is a practicing physician, a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency in family medicine and preventive medicine at the UNC School of Medicine. He earned his master's degree in public health from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Please join the Board and the entire CCNC family in congratulating Tom on his new role and in thanking Allen for his extraordinary leadership.

Sincerely,

Bill Stewart signature
