In the News

Boston Globe editorial. There was a positive CCNC reference in the Boston Globe last week in an editorial discussing the post-SCOTUS-decision landscape in health care.

People in the Spotlight. Several CCNC folks were singled out for recent honors and opportunities.

  • Preceptor of the year. AccessCare’s Monique Alford, PharmD, was recognized as one of the Preceptors of the Year by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. For more information, please see the UNC site. Congrats to Monique!
  • White House/DHHS policy discussions. Community Care Plan of Eastern North Carolina's Huyla Coker, PharmD participated in a discussion regarding “HIT and Improving Care Quality and Patient Health” at a June gathering of Senior Obama administration officials. Dr. Coker also participated in a Health IT Vanguards “Meet and Greet” at DHHS Headquarters in DC, where she described her role as a transitional care pharmacist and how health information technology improves patient care in northeastern NC.
  • Western North Carolina’s Dr. R.W. “Chip” Watkins has been busy on the speaker circuit in the last few weeks, addressing the National State and Local Government Benefits Association, the NC Primary Care Conference, and the NC Academy of Family Physicians Summer Meeting. Dr. Watkins has also begun a three-year term as one of only 19 doctors nationally serving on NCQA's Physician Review Oversight Committee.

Other News

Media mention.  CCNC is mentioned favorably in a recent article about ACOs and the Medicaid program in the AMA’s American Medical News.

CHIPRA survey on teen health. Do you know teens willing to spend a few minutes letting their thoughts on health care be known? CCNC will be surveying teens 13-18 to identify issues important to adolescents and better understand how they deal with decisions affecting their health. Participants in the short (ten minutes or less) survey will be entered in a drawing to win a $250.00 Visa gift card. Physician offices are encouraged to display posters with “tear off” URL information that will go out to CCNC-participating practices shortly. Interested teens should go to the Survey Monkey site between July 12 and September 15, 2012. For more information, please contact Stacy Warren.

CCNC Board nominations coming up. Look for a mailing in the next few days providing detailed instructions on the process for nominating candidates for the new Board of Directors. The CCNC Membership has six network slots to fill and will also be electing five persons from CCNC’s partner associations to serve on the Board. Please be sure to provide photos, bios and other information on the qualifications of the individuals you nominate.
