Created in 1985, the Innovations in American Government Award Program highlights and promotes excellence and creativity in the public sector. Over the years it has recognized 500 inventive and inspiring initiatives developed by governmental entities to meet some of their most urgent challenges. As one of seven winners in 2007, CCNC received a $100,000 grant for state and national-level promotion efforts.

“Community Care of North Carolina effectively demonstrates that collaboration across physician practices and social service programs can and does work to improve health care delivery while keeping costs low," said Stephen Goldsmith, Director of the Innovations in American Government Program at the Ash Institute. “We are pleased to honor the achievements and innovation demonstrated in this program and look forward to celebrating its future success as its best practices in managed health care are shared across the nation.”

The Ash Institute produced this video explaining how Community Care of North Carolina works.
